English Courses Descriptions/Publishers

FOUR credits required even for students who opt for the three year, eighteen credit option. One from each level I-IV must be taken. The only exceptions are college level courses taken through a college or university.
ALL English MUST include literature and writing as a major concentration. K-8 level English or Grammar courses are often broken into several parts for grading, like grammar, spelling, writing, vocabulary and literature. At the high school level all of those parts are included in the course description for just one course and are averaged together for the credit. An example is Bob Jones Press. To earn the Florida credit of English I Honors, the student must complete the Writing and Grammar 9 Worktext, Fundamentals of Literature, and Vocabulary Workbook C.

There are additional English courses, like Writing I and World Literature, but those require one-hundred and fifty hours of instruction in addition to the forty-five to ninety hours of instruction that are already in the standard English course. If you take one of these courses, they will will count in the 24 needed for graduation, but will not be counted as one of the four required English courses.

Click on the name of a course in its table below to download the detailed course description in PDF form. Below each course code number and name is a brief description of the course followed by the publishers and course material that fulfill the course requirements.

A backgound and description of the format used by individual publishers can be found in the "Parent Directed Education, Orientation to Homeschooling" section of this web site, under the "Choosing a Curriculum" page.
