Our homeschooling adventure actually began long before Families of Faith came to be. In fact, when we started we didn't know anything about homeschooling. In 1982 there wasn't anyone else that we knew of that was doing it. Our oldest son began reading at age four and by the time he was ready for kindergarten he was a proficient, independent reader. When the time came we enrolled him in a local church school. Within a few weeks the problems started. You see, the school did not believe that he could already read and would not let him bring books to school or read during break times. Our son was five years old and already hated going to school!
After some "discussions" with the school principal they finally gave our son a reading readiness test which he promptly failed. We, of course, asked to see this test. The test had been copied from an original using an old mimeograph machine and it was all one color. One of the questions asked him to circle a red balloon. Well, there was no red balloon so he circled with a red crayon. I pointed this out to the principal but he refused to change his position. So, we pulled him out of the school.
Fast forward to 1994 and our eldest son is now in high school along with some of his brothers and sisters. We wanted to ensure that he would receive a real high school diploma. Many others in our homeschool community wanted the same for their sons and daughters, and Families of Faith was born.
We established a private school to provide guidance and record keeping for homeschool families. Through our school these homeschool kids now have a real high school diploma. This has helped thousands of home school students go to colleges across our nation and serve in the military without having to get a G.E.D. or "proving" that they really completed school.
